Machine Washing Vertical Blinds
Old Lady Puts Vertical Blinds in the Washing Machine!
Or was it her Dog?..... Urban myth or not, Hillarys Blinds tell us that apparently you can wash Vertical blinds in the washing machine! There are a few rules that you must follow though and they are rather precise so here goes:
If your vertical blinds are made of plastic, PVC etc. They are probably easier to clean by hand by wiping down with a damp cloth. Simply lay them down on a flat surface and wipe them clean with a mild detergent being careful to scrub or clean them with a circular motion, only wipe in the direction of the louvre.
If they are fabric then they are probably machine washable. Check the cleaning instructions that came with your blinds as there are certain types of fabric that are not suitable for this process. If in doubt contact the manufacturer.
Machine Washing
Carefully roll up each louvre avoiding any creasing and tie the rolls with string or tape so they don't unravel during washing. Put your roll into a pillowcase and tie the end up and Put each roll through the wash individually without other laundry. Use only mild detergent on a woollens cycle maximum 40 degrees and cancel the final rinse and make sure they dont go through a spin cycle.
